Duncan Ridge Trail Section two is conveniently located about 22 miles north of Stonepile Gap (where Ga hwy 60 and US 1p split north of Dahlonega, GA. This portion lived up to its reputation of being the Most Strenuous long segment of trail in Georgia. The second half of DR2 starts at Mulky Gap.
There are no flat sections. You're either ascending, descending, or transistioning through gaps. The entire trail folows ridge lines and goes peak to gap to peak to gap. Oprtunities for water are clearly marked with wooden blazes with a "W" and and arrow pointing the direction. Carry plenty of water. Leave some in your car at the end near Blood Mountian.
There are a few opportunities to see incredible views of the surrounding mountains. Most of the time you'll be hiking in a heavily forested area with limited views. Best time for views is probably mid Fall to early Spring before the leaves return.
The trail is easy to follow, smooth, soft, well groomed and the grades are often very steep with virtually NO switchbacks. Unlike the AT there is an absense of ankle twisting rocks, and boulders.

Views from Blood Mountain near sunset. You have to summit Blood Mountain from Slaughter Gap and descend after finishing the Duncan Ridge Section 2 trail. This adds another 1.5 to 2 miles to the section.
