Sawnee Mountain is conveniently located about 20 miles north of Atlanta's perimeter and can be easily reached from Ga Hwy 400 at Exit 15. The Sawnee Mountain Preserve had it's phase one open in 2005 and phase two in 2008. Facilities are new, clean, and do not appear to be "loved to death". The trails are wide, well groomed and easy grades. One can do endless combinations of loops to create short walks to the top or longer trips to get a good workout. You're rewarded with excellent views of the North Georgia Mountains. On a clear day, you can see quite a distance. The area has lots of hardwoods, hickorys, oaks, and surely has great fall color and shady summer trails. Picnic tables and play grounds make it attractive to family outings.
